A few weeks after concluding our grief work, I visited The National Gallery in Washington, D.C. and thought of Steve. Tibetan monks had worked contemplatively for three days at the gallery creating an intricate and colorful sand mandala. On the fourth day, they simply blew the great sand design apart, revealing to the audience their joy in creating and their acceptance of impermanence. Their smiles, joyful banter, and lightheartedness were contagious.

Are we ever far from finding fascinating and unexpected twists in life, finding both inspiring and annoying people, or life’s generous offerings? Frequently coincidences can enchant, funny movies offer delight, and authors may inspire. And, of course, our embarrassing personal blunders and our humorous stories are ever with us, to elicit a laugh if we so choose.
